Natural Hazards

Natural Hazards in Key Stage 3 Geography refers to extreme natural events that can cause harm to people or damage property. Some key aspects include understanding plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis, tropical storms so that students understand the causes and effects, as well as strategies for risk reduction and management.

This KS3 Natural Hazards module will enable students to:​

  • Define natural hazards and recognize different types of natural hazards.
  • Understand how geological, meteorological and environmental factors lead to the occurrence of natural hazards.
  • Differentiate between natural hazards and natural disasters.
  • Explain the factors that impact disaster risk.
  • Know how the varying contexts of different countries affect how they respond to natural hazards.
