The Carbon Cycle

The carbon cycle helps us understand how carbon transfers between different reservoirs on Earth. Understanding this cycle enables us to examine its role in maintaining a stable climate and carbon balance on Earth. We need to understand that the carbon cycle plays a key role in regulating Earth's global temperature and climate by controlling the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

This A-Level Carbon Cycle module will enable students to:

  • Discuss the processes involved in the carbon cycle;
  • Discuss how carbon maintains the planet’s health;
  • Examine how human activities threaten the carbon cycle through time;
  • Discuss the connection between the carbon cycle and the global climate
  • Analyse how the degradation of the carbon cycle affects human well-being; and
  • Discuss how we can address warming risks
