Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the biological variety and variability of life on earth. It refers to all species and living things on earth or in a specific ecosystem. It is also a measure of variation at the genetic, species, and ecosystem levels. Assessment of biodiversity and its interactions applies to all types of organisms (plants, animals, bacteria and others) and to the ecosystems of which they’re part and in which they interact.

This A-Level Biodiversity module will enable students to:

  • Define what biodiversity is
  • Identify the different kinds of biodiversity
  • Identify the different patterns of biodiversity
  • Know the different factors that affect the distribution of biodiversity
  • Know how biodiversity maintains ecosystems
  • Know the different threats to biodiversity
  • Identify possible actions to combat threats against biodiversity
