Russia Place Studies

Russia is an interesting place of study in KS3 Geography curriculum. The curriculum aims to provide students with comprehensive understanding of the geographical features, both physical and human, of Russia. What makes Russia a unique place of study is its sheer scale and diversity. As the largest country in the world, it spans 11 time zones and stretches across a variety of landscapes including taiga, tundra, steppes, mountains and plain. This makes it a perfect case study for how geography influences human activity and ecosystems. Along with climate diversity, physical geography and human geography, Russia also carries significant geopolitical importance.

This KS3 Russia Place Studies module will enable students to:

  • Describe the physical geography of Russia
  • Describe the human geography of Russia
  • Describe the various biomes present in Russia
  • Describe the climate patterns and variations across Russia
  • Explain why people are attracted to living in Moscow
  • Explain the challenges of governing such a vast and diverse country
