Water Resources
The study of Water Resources at the KS3 level focuses on helping students understand the critical role water plays in supporting life, agriculture, industry, and peace. It also shapes landscapes and sustains economies. Rather than focusing on the processes of the water cycle, which can be found in other parts of this website, Water Resources focuses more on the distribution of water, water and human needs, the impact of water scarcity and surplus, and the importance of drought and flood management. Students will also learn about the disparities in water resource management between high income and low income countries.
Understanding these concepts helps students grasp the interconnectedness of human and environmental systems, and encourage critical thinking about sustainable water resource management.
This KS3 Water Resources module will enable students to:
- Distinguish between water security and insecurity
- Identify which factors contribute to water security or insecurity
- Understand the importance of clean water to human well-being
- Know how water transfer addresses water scarcity and uneven distribution
- Define drought, and know its global impact.
- Know how HIgh-Income Countries (HIC) and Low-Income-Countries (LIC) respond to water insecurity
