Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The study of SDGs is a crucial part of the KS3 geography curriculum. Students learn that sustainable development goals address the most pressing global issues such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. In the process, students also learn about their interconnectedness. Promoting sustainability through SDGs aim to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all, and their study helps students understand what sustainability actually means and how it can be achieved. An exciting part of studying SDGs is developing problem-solving skills for complex, real-world problems that require innovative solutions. Through better understanding of challenges and issues facing the modern world, along with knowledge of SDGs, students develop a greater sense of global citizenship which requires cooperation and collaboration between countries in order create a better world.
This KS3 Sustainable Development Goals module will enable students to:
- Familiarise themselves with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals
- Understand the UN’s role in the creation and pursuit of the SDGs
- Know where the SDGs came from and why they were made
- See the progress the international community has made towards achieving the SDGs
- Recognise both the challenges and successes in implementing the SDGs
