Food Resources

The study of Food Resources at the KS3 level focuses on helping students understand the global food supply chain, food security, and issues of sustainability. Students will learn where food comes from, how it's produced, processed and transported, and the impact of agricultural practices on the environment. Through exploring Food Resources through the lense of Geographical Issues and Challenges, students can explore aspects of food distribution, food waste, and the challenges of feeding a growing population with finite resources of land and water.

Understanding these concepts helps students grasp the interconnectedness of human and environmental systems, and encourage critical thinking about sustainable resource management.

This KS3 Food Resources module will enable students to:

  • Understand the factors that lead to food security and insecurity
  • Know different methods employed to increase crop yield
  • Know how food is provided globally
  • Understand the impact of globalisation on food provision
  • Understand the role of multinational corporations in the global supply chain
  • Recognise efforts towards sustainability in food production and consumption
  • Know the current state of the UK food system.
