Environmental Campaigns

The study of Environmental Campaigns at the KS3 level focuses on helping students understand how important real-world problems impact the environment and society. These campaigns focus on issues like climate change, deforestation, pollution, and resource depletion. All of this are critical geographical challenges.

Through this module, students begin to understand human impact on the environment by showing how human actions like industrialization and deforestation affect ecosystems, biodiversity, and global climate patterns. Students also develop awareness of the interrelationship between global and local issues. These include environmental campaigns to raise awareness of problems that are happening both globally (like global warming) and locally (like plastic pollution, drought, etc.). Getting to know issues like these can be overwhelming and anxiety-inducing for students, so the next step is to explore solutions and actions by way of examples. Students analyse the effectiveness of environmental campaigns, consider different viewpoints, and think about how geography connects with social, economic, and environmental factors.

This KS3 Environmental Campaigns module will enable students to:​

• Know the advantages and disadvantages of using fossil fuels.
• Understand how fossil fuels are harmful to the environment and why we should seek renewable alternatives
• Recognise the negative impacts of plastic pollution on our environment
• Be familiar with movements and initiatives seeking to reduce carbon emissions and plastic consumption
• Understand the roles of individuals and communities in ending carbon emissions and the excessive use of plastic.
