Energy Resources

Studying energy resources in Geography at KS3 level is important for several reasons, as it equips students with knowledge and skills that are crucial for understanding the world around them and preparing for the future. Key reasons include understanding global challenges, linking energy resources to sustainability and future careers, building geographical skills, interdisciplinary connections, and relevance to students' lives. Students are also encouraged to think critically and creatively, to think about global inequality and justice, while also preparing them for higher levels of study should the choose Geography as an area of further study.

Understanding these concepts helps students grasp the interconnectedness of human and environmental systems.

This KS3 Energy Resources module will enable students to:

  • Distinguish between renewable and non-renewable energy resources
  • Recognise trends in regional and global energy usage
  • Know the factors that influence energy consumption patterns
  • Understand the importance of sustainable energy use and its role in mitigating environmental impacts
  • Know the UK’s different energy sources and current energy mix
  • Understand how the UK’s energy mix is changing
