Climate Change

The study of Climate Change at the KS3 level helps students understand how and why the Earth's climate is changing naturally and as a result of human activity. Students will explore how the global climate has evolved throughout Earth’s history and examine the scientific evidence that proves current changes are occurring. Students gain insight into the reality and urgency of climate change by identifying key indicators, such as rising temperatures, melting ice caps, and changing weather patterns.

Through the lens of Geographical Issues and Challenges, students will investigate the causes of climate change, including both natural processes and human activities such as deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. They will also distinguish between the natural greenhouse effect, which makes life on Earth possible, and the enhanced greenhouse effect, which is driving recent global warming. Additionally, students will explore how scientists predict future climate trends and develop an understanding of carbon footprints and personal responsibility in reducing emissions..

This KS3 Climate Change module will enable students to:

  • Define climate change.
  • Know how the global climate has changed over Earth’s history.
  • Determine the indicators of climate change and the evidence that proves it.
  • Determine the causes of climate change, both natural and human.
  • Distinguish between the natural greenhouse effect and the enhanced greenhouse effect.
  • Know how experts predict climate change.
  • Understand the concept of a carbon footprint.
