Natural Hazards: Introduction

A hazard is defined as something that causes a potential risk to human life or to property. These bring about disasters which in turn cause structural damage, death, and ultimately, interruption of human activities.

With this, natural hazards are naturally occurring physical phenomena caused either by rapid or slow onset events, which pose a risk to human life and property.

This ​A-Level Introduction to ​Natural Hazards module introduces the following to your students:

  • Define what natural hazards and disasters are
  • Identify the different kinds of hazards and their examples
  • Describe the factors that affect disaster risk
  • Explain the global trend when it comes to disasters and their impact
