Superpowers

A nation that has the ability to project its influence to the rest of the world is considered to be a superpower. Being a superpower means that they have a big say in all the decisions related to global affairs, and are seen as a global force for change. Emerging superpowers, on the other hand, are countries possessing one or more superpower characteristics with a growing influence over global affairs.

This A-Level Biodiversity module will enable students to:

  • Identify the factors for a country to be considered a superpower
  • Discuss the way(s) superpowers have changed over time
  • Discuss how superpowers influence the global economy
  • Describe the role of superpowers in terms of international decision making
  • Explain the ways spheres of influence are being contested by superpowers
  • Describe the relations between superpowers and developing countries
